The counts differ for three reasons. The same server is often listed in several directories. Some sitemaps include sub-pages for each server. Some directories mix skills and clients with servers. We show each count on its own and do not add them up.

Methodology
One day, one API call chain, no estimates.
- We called the official registry API (
registry.modelcontextprotocol.io/v0/servers) page by page until no cursor was left. - We kept one row per server name, using the record marked as latest.
- We used the first
publishedAtdate per name as the first publish month. - We counted Smithery from its API total, and mcp.so, Glama and PulseMCP from their sitemaps.
- We pulled every source on the same day.
